How to Complete a Job in the Field

4 min read
Feature: Field

The Field Service technician workflow ensures work orders are executed safely, photo proof is captured, and customer signatures are collected on-site. This bridges the gap between field work and office billing.

Business Outcome
Standardizing mobile updates gives coordinators real-time tracking, enforces on-site safety compliance, and captures digital signatures for immediate billing.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

1

View Assigned Agenda

Open the Service Opus mobile app. Navigate to My Jobs to view your routes, priorities, client addresses, and scheduling targets.

2

Update Status to 'En Route'

When traveling to the job site, click Start Travel. This tracks travel coordinates and updates the dispatcher board.

3

Check In and Complete Safety Check

Arrive at the site and tap Check In. Complete the mandatory pre-work safety questionnaire (e.g. lock-out tag-out checklist).

4

Execute Job Scope & Log Work

Perform the repairs. Use the mobile app to record actual parts used from truck stock, log time spent, and type notes.

Field Requirement Purpose / Details
Technician Notes Optional Describe the repairs performed for office/billing review.
Inventory Used Optional Record stock codes and quantities used from truck inventory.
5

Capture Photos and Evidence

Upload 'Before' and 'After' photos of the equipment using the mobile camera. Attach photos directly to the job card.

6

Obtain Customer Approval

Present the job wrap-up screen to the customer. Ask them to sign their name in the signature box, then tap Complete Job.

Validation Rules

To keep operations reliable, Service Opus enforces the following rules for this workflow:

  • GPS Check-in Requirement: Technicians must be within 1,000 feet of the job coordinates to check in, or provide a override note.
  • Mandatory Signature: A signature must be captured to close out a job marked as 'Completed' unless marked as unattended.
Important Rule
Completing a job automatically alerts the warehouse system to deduct the recorded materials from your truck stock, triggering reorder alerts if stock falls below limits.
